A mitad de camino is the result of this attempt to understand Peru from all its angles. Its great theme is the Peruvian collective life and its possibilities of existing in today’s world. Recording the figures and data of a country is one thing, but what really counts is to understand its soul, that is, its identity and its culture.
These notes attempt to reflect on the most essential challenges that people and institutions face in the complex time and place in which we live. These articles do not have a totalizing intention nor a precise order. They are rather a collection of spontaneous, colloquial, dialogical writings that may occasionally provoke in the reader a revision of some of his or her presumptions and prejudices.
The guiding thread of this book is the attempt to understand what is happening in Peru and in the world in order to unravel what is relevant and anticipate its consequences. Only in this way can it be explained that all these issues, with their enormous gravity, can be addressed in texts of such forceful brevity, without falling into the superficial.
